It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a woman in possession of a holy grail beauty product must have a shit ton of disappointing products.
I'm surprised I've yet to devote a post to some of the disappointing products in my stash yet. I know some of these are cult favourites that just didn't work out for me, while some of these deserve ALLL THE SHADE!!!
(Also, the header photo for this post is kinda misleading, since I've got like, nine disappointing products here)
Hourglass Mineral Veil primer ($21CDN): Wayne Goss was like "THIS IS THE BEST PRIMER EVER!!" and I was like "OK!!!1!11!1!!", and yet here it is in my disappoints stash. It does nothing for my oily skin, besides making it super
sexy velvety to the touch.
I tried to do a metaphorical diagram.
|This is the point where you wonder how I ever drew my header.|
NARS Concealer Stick ($24CDN): My first high end purchase...EVER. Picked this up before the Creamy Radiant was released, and I had done extensive research on this before picking it up. I did manage to finish using this, but it wasn't very long lasting, was dry, and clung to dry patches.
Tarte Cheek Stains ($36 for the old ones, $30 for the new): TARTE, Y U BETRAY ME? My first high end blush purchases...ever! These were my babies...until I put them on my face and found out that they remain tacky throughout the day...if they even managed to stay throughout the day. I've found that it stays on better on my dry winter skin, but in the summer when my face is super oily? lolbye.
Besides the fact that they smell amazing (citrusy), the 3 month lifespan doesn't exactly help either.
(Also, fun fact- this was the first product I ever reviewed on this blog. I gave it an overwhelmingly positive rating back then despite not liking the product...I AM ASHAME)
Benefit Cha Cha Tint ($30 full-size): While the colour for this is goooorgeous, this product stains really weird. When you dab this on your cheeks and blend, it's obvious that the initial dabs have already stained your cheeks, resulting in weird orange spots with a hard edge on your cheeks. (I MAKE IT SOUND WEIRD, I'LL HAVE A SWATCH BELOW)
Essence Metal Glam blush (Less than $5): As much as I love Essence limited edition stuff, their products are a hit or miss. This 'blush' is a sheer orange glitterbomb, which means I'll probably end up using it as a highlighter or layered on top of another summer blush.
Maybelline the Falsies ($5-7)- YEAH, I KNOW PRACTICALLY EVERYONE LOVES THIS MASCARA, OK. It just didn't do anything for my stumpy lashes...besides clump them and made me look like a
Maybelline Expert Wear eyeshadow quads ($5-7): I have two of these, one in the older packaging and another in the new packaging (pictured above), and these are definitely not expert wear. Barely any pigmentation, and I feel like my brushes are just packing glitter on my lids. No me gusta.
Biotherm Biocils eye makeup remover gel: I've had this tiny bottle for years...because it sucks. It's cold goop on the eyes that isn't even up to the task of removing non-waterproof mascara. It's like an eye makeup remover having an existential crisis. ಠ_ಠ
Behold, the worst group of swatches ever.
And there you go! It just goes to show you how some products work so well for some people, but don't necessarily yield the same results for others.
What are your disappointing products?
